As a partnership, Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid have secured 21 Grand Slam doubles titles. Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid were unable to defend their Wheelchair Masters doubles title, suffering a straight-set defeat to Martin de la Puente and Joachim Gerard in the Netherlands. The British pair, who had claimed the title for a third time as a team in 2023, were defeated 6-4 6-2 by the Spanish-Belgian duo. Reid and Hewett, who clinched the Paralympic doubles title in Paris this summer, had also previously triumphed at the season-ending tournament in 2017 and 2021. Nevertheless, Reid will have another opportunity for a trophy in Arnhem, having secured his spot in the singles final earlier on Saturday. He overcame De la Puente 6-2 6-1 in his semi-final match. However, defending singles champion Hewett was unable to ensure an all-British final, as he was defeated 6-4 4-6 6-3 by Japan’s Paralympic champion Tokito Oda. The Wheelchair Masters singles title has eluded Reid thus far, a situation he intends to alter in Sunday’s final facing 2022 champion Oda.
