Award-winning football writer Henry Winter suggests that Nottingham Forest’s impressive start to the Premier League season should lead the Reds to once again contemplate a return to European competition. Following two seasons spent battling to avoid relegation, Forest has commenced the current campaign robustly under manager Nuno Espírito Santo, currently holding fifth place in the table after 11 matches. When questioned about the realistic prospects of the two-time European Cup winners finishing high enough to qualify for a continental competition, Winter stated that the East Midlands club possesses the pedigree to achieve it. “If you look at the top of the Premier League table, it’s only Arsenal that haven’t won a Champions League or European Cup. Nottingham Forest have got two of them,” Winter told BBC East Midlands Today. He further remarked, “I can remember going into the old board room and just seeing the two replica cups up there. I started out covering the tail end of Brian Clough’s career [as Forest manager] and I think European football and Nottingham Forest are not exactly strangers.” Winter concluded, “So absolutely, why not? They are expanding the European competitions and Nottingham Forest could completely be in that.” Post navigation Reading Eliminates Newport County from EFL Trophy with 3-0 Victory Mohamed Salah Reflects on Liverpool’s Victory and Personal Milestones
