Great Britain’s women’s team experienced a 63-60 loss to undefeated Sweden during their recent EuroBasket qualifying match held in Malmo. Their upcoming fixture in the Women’s EuroBasket qualifying campaign is scheduled for 6 February, when they will host Estonia. The British squad had sought to retaliate for a 64-62 defeat suffered in the previous encounter in Manchester and enhance their prospects of securing qualification as Group D champions. Despite establishing a five-point lead by half-time, the home side mounted a strong recovery, narrowing Great Britain’s lead to two points by the conclusion of the third quarter. Sweden ultimately completed their comeback in the last quarter, securing victory in another closely contested game and improving their perfect record to four wins in four matches. For Great Britain, Holly Winterburn was the leading scorer with 22 points, supported by Temi Fagbenie who contributed 21 points. A win would have elevated Great Britain to share the top spot with Sweden; however, they stay in second position with a record of two victories and two losses. Qualification for Women’s EuroBasket 2025 is granted to group winners. The tournament is scheduled for June and will be co-hosted by the Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, and Italy. Additionally, the four best-performing runners-up from groups A through H in the qualifying rounds will advance to next year’s finals, alongside each host nation.
