West Bromwich Albion’s Grady Diangana is set to be available for selection for Sunday’s match against Bristol City, having been sidelined for six games due to a calf injury. The 26-year-old former West Ham United winger was a key contributor last season, scoring seven goals and providing eight assists as the Baggies advanced to the Championship play-offs. However, recurring minor injuries have limited his participation this season, causing him to miss nine of Albion’s 21 league fixtures, with only six starts. With a demanding schedule of five matches in 13 days approaching during the festive period, manager Carlos Corberan recognizes the upcoming challenge for his squad and hopes Diangana can replicate his performance from the previous season. Corberan conveyed to BBC Radio WM, “Last year Grady was one of our most important players, especially in the last third, with his goal involvement.” He further noted, “He started with a shoulder injury in pre-season and has not had the consistency he needs.” Regarding Diangana’s current status, Corberan added, “He has trained this week. Two physical days, two football days. If his reaction is positive, touch wood, hopefully he will be ready for Sunday.” West Bromwich Albion faces a mandatory alteration on the left flank, as Callum Styles suffered a hamstring injury during Sunday’s 2-1 loss to Watford. Nevertheless, Corberan anticipates that Diangana’s potential availability could contribute to maintaining the positive atmosphere at The Hawthorns. After holding the top position in late September, Albion has since dropped to eighth place, trailing the leaders by 13 points. Their recent form includes only two victories in 15 games, with ten of those being draws. However, the team has shown an improvement in goal-scoring at home. Following a period where they scored only two goals in their initial seven league matches this season, they have now scored two goals in each of their last three games at The Hawthorns, which include 2-2 draws against Norwich City and Sheffield United, and a fortunate 2-0 home win over Coventry City. Bristol City enters the last set of fixtures before Christmas five points adrift of the Baggies, occupying 11th position at the start of the weekend.
