Britain’s Gordon Reid, a player who has won two Grand Slam singles titles in his career, was defeated in three sets by Tokito Oda in the Wheelchair Masters singles final. Competing in his third final overall and his first since 2017, Reid fell to the Japanese world number one with a scoreline of 2-6, 6-0, 6-2 in Arnhem, a city in the Netherlands. This outcome followed a day after the British number two, alongside Alfie Hewett, was also unsuccessful in defending their Wheelchair Masters doubles title. They were defeated in straight sets by Spain’s Martin de la Puente and Belgian Joachim Gerard on Saturday. The 33-year-old Reid, who has never claimed the Wheelchair Masters singles title, could not alter this record against 18-year-old Oda. Oda has also achieved victories at the Australian Open, French Open, and secured Paralympic gold this year.
