Georgie Dagger Included in England Squad Ahead of Australia Test

Georgie Dagger, who was then known as Hetherington, first played for England against France in June. Georgie Dagger has been included in England’s 31-player training camp, marking her return to the national squad ahead of the international match against Australia scheduled for March in Las Vegas. The individual recognized as the 2024 Woman of Steel, previously known as Georgie Hetherington, was absent from England’s 82-0 victory over Wales on 2 November. Her absence was due to her marriage to Will Dagger, a player for York Knights in the men’s Championship, on that date. In October, Dagger, aged 27, contributed to York Valkyrie’s win against St Helens in the Women’s Super League Grand Final. Georgia Roche is also making her return to the international team, having missed the Wales Test previously due to her club obligations with Newcastle Knights in Australia. England head coach Stuart Barrow stated, “Everyone in this squad has a chance to earn themselves a spot on the plane to Vegas and that is a testament to the quality we have within the group.” England is scheduled to compete against Australia on 1 March (02:00 GMT 2 March). This match is part of a series of four rugby league fixtures set to take place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas during March. The event will also feature a men’s Super League encounter between Wigan Warriors and Warrington Wolves, alongside two NRL fixtures: Canberra Raiders against New Zealand Warriors, and Penrith Panthers versus Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks. Barrow is scheduled to conduct his initial training session on Saturday, 7 December, with plans to reduce the squad to 20 players in February.
