Callum O’Hare and Gus Hamer are set to make their initial return to Coventry following their departures. This week has been marked by a series of former Coventry figures revisiting the city. Previously, Mark Robins returned to Coventry a fortnight after his dismissal to accept an honorary doctorate from Coventry University. Following the significant attention given to Robins’ departure and Frank Lampard’s status as a leading candidate for his replacement, the focus now shifts to two additional former “Sky Blues” fan favorites, Gustavo Hamer and Callum O’Hare. Hamer and O’Hare are projected to be in the starting lineup, pending their fitness, for Saturday’s match against second-placed Sheffield United. Both players were integral to the “Sky Blues” squad that advanced to the Championship play-off final in May 2023. However, Hamer departed for Bramall Lane three months later, with O’Hare making the move in July. The potential outcome had City retained these players remains entirely speculative. Presently, Coventry occupies the 17th position in the Championship standings, trailing Chris Wilder’s Blades by 15 points. United has secured victories in their last four consecutive matches, notably a 1-0 derby triumph against Sheffield Wednesday a fortnight ago, a game in which both Hamer and O’Hare featured.
