Former defender Stephen Warnock stated that Liverpool “got the job done” in their away victory against Girona and will prove to be a “very tough game” for any team they encounter this season. Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live following the Reds’ 1-0 win in the Champions League on Tuesday evening, which maintained their flawless record in the competition this campaign, Warnock commented: “Not Liverpool’s greatest performance but it is a job well done.” He observed that the team “were a little bit fortuitous with the penalty but the same result as usual for Mohamed Salah.” Warnock added that Salah, having “missed against Real Madrid a couple of weeks back,” “came back and made sure he got it and they get the three points.” Warnock reiterated that despite Liverpool “weren’t at their best,” they “got the job done and that is the main thing.” He noted that “Not much was expected this year of Liverpool,” but suggested that within the team’s changing room, “there would have been a lot of people saying, ‘no, we can go on a good run, we can be dominant in both competitions’.” Expressing some uncertainty about whether the team anticipated this level of success, stating, “Would they have thought it would have been to this degree? I’m not so sure,” Warnock concluded: “What we can say is, Liverpool for anyone will be a very, very tough game this season in both the Premier League and the Champions League.”
