Fiorentina midfielder Edoardo Bove, who joined the club on a season-long loan from Roma in the summer, has been moved out of intensive care and is showing signs of recovery, according to the team’s general manager. Bove was hospitalized following his collapse on the field during Fiorentina’s Serie A fixture against Inter Milan on Sunday. We have to be patient and have respect for him. He changed [hospital] wards so things are better.” Ahead of Wednesday’s cup fixture, Fiorentina’s players, staff, and supporters demonstrated their solidarity with Bove at Stadio Artemio Franchi. The fans unveiled a vibrant tifo featuring Bove’s number four, concurrently, on the field, the players and staff displayed banners conveying messages of encouragement for their colleague. Emmanuel Ekong, who scored for Empoli, also honored Bove by raising four fingers to the crowd after scoring the opening goal for the visiting team. Fiorentina’s Moise Kean replicated this gesture after scoring the equalizer. Following a 2-2 draw, Empoli secured a 4-3 victory in a penalty shootout, advancing to the quarter-finals.
