A forthcoming Formula 1 team, set to bear the name of GM’s Cadillac brand, is slated to receive engines from Ferrari, pending official approval of its entry for the 2026 season. The American marque holds an agreement in principle with Formula 1 to participate in the championship starting in 2026, with plans to develop its own engine “at a later time.” Cadillac, a division of General Motors, has reached an understanding with Ferrari to acquire customer engines and gearboxes until its proprietary power unit is developed, a milestone not anticipated prior to 2028. This arrangement ensures Ferrari will maintain two customer teams in 2026, even after Sauber transitions to become the Audi factory entry. Frederic Vasseur, Ferrari’s team principal, commented: “It’s great to see the commitment of another American team, backed by one of the most highly respected marques in the motor industry, at a time when Formula 1 is increasing in popularity in the United States.” He added, “We are delighted therefore that we will be supplying the team with our power unit and gearbox as the basis of this technical collaboration.” Vasseur also stated that having two customer teams – with Haas continuing its partnership with Ferrari – “brings benefits in terms of technical development within Ferrari.” While Cadillac’s participation has not yet received formal ratification from Formula 1, this final approval is widely anticipated to be a mere formality.
