Portuguese football expert Tom Kundert stated that “you cannot overstate the job” Ruben Amorim has accomplished at Sporting Lisbon since his appointment in March 2020. Speaking on BBC Radio Manchester’s The Devils’ Advocate podcast, Kundert described him as “a hugely successful coach in his career so far,” adding, “He’s a coach with a bit of a Midas touch.” “You cannot overstate the job he has done at Sporting,” Kundert emphasized. He noted that Amorim joined a club in significant disarray, which had not secured the Championship in 19 years, yet he led them to victory in his initial season. Furthermore, he secured the title again last season, his fourth year, and the team is performing exceptionally well this season. Kundert suggested this provides a clear illustration of his achievements. Kundert concluded by suggesting, “You could say that he has changed Portuguese football.” Amorim, for his part, has indicated that he has not yet decided on his future, following Manchester United’s expressed interest in appointing him as their manager. Concurrently, Portuguese football journalist Mariana Fernandes informed BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast that “Amorim is the most amazing thing to happen in Portuguese football in the last couple of years.” She added that “He has become the most important manager in Sporting’s history.”
