Exeter City became the initial team to prevent a loss against Wycombe Wanderers, a feat not achieved since Wycombe’s 2-1 defeat by Premier League club Aston Villa in the EFL Cup on 24 September. Gary Caldwell, the manager of Exeter City, commended his team’s “outstanding” display during their 2-2 stalemate against Wycombe Wanderers, who currently lead League One. Exeter had quickly established a 2-0 advantage, only to be equalized by an opponent that had secured victories in their preceding 11 matches across all competitions. Caldwell stated to BBC Radio Devon: “The goal before half-time changes the game a little bit – if we come in at 2-0, it’s probably a different game but the players were outstanding tonight.” He further elaborated on his team’s play, saying: “The way we played, the bravery we showed in possession, the effort, the energy, the desire out of possession…” Caldwell concluded: “I thought it was a brilliant game of football against a team that’s won the last 11 games.” He added: “I think it has to be put down, regardless of how the game went, as a good point.” He also stressed the importance of future performance: “We have to take that performance level and that quality into the game on Saturday.” Exeter, currently positioned 11th in League One, is scheduled to visit fifth-placed Stockport County this Saturday, with aspirations of narrowing the six-point difference separating the two teams. Caldwell expressed particular satisfaction with his side’s offensive prowess, especially during the initial quarter of the match when they established a 2-0 lead through goals scored by Millenic Alli and Jack McMillan. “The speed at which we attacked them, I think he caught them out,” Caldwell further remarked. He continued: “We were so aggressive and I keep saying this team has so much more potential, and when we see 20-30 minutes of that quality, we need to obviously see that for longer.” He emphasized the significance of their performance: “When they do that against the best team in the league at the moment, the best team on form in probably all four divisions in England, they are such a threat.” Caldwell concluded: “So all credit to the players, we performed really well. That’s what I wanted.” Post navigation Devine Labels Criticism of Strikers ‘Not Very Fair’ Statistical Overview: Hull City vs. Swansea City
