Eom Ji-Sung, who joined Swansea City in July from South Korean top-flight club Gwangju FC, is set to return for Saturday’s Championship match against Portsmouth. Head coach Luke Williams expressed confidence in Swansea City’s readiness following their midweek victory over Derby. The 22-year-old winger has been sidelined since October 10, when he sustained a knee injury while representing South Korea. However, Eom is now deemed fit enough to participate as Swansea aims for its fourth victory in six league matches. Swansea head coach Williams commented on Eom’s return, stating, “Eom has been away for a while but he’s available.” He added, “We are really excited that he’s back and he looks really excited in training. It’s a real positive for us.” Williams also indicated that Swansea anticipates “don’t see a problem” regarding Harry Darling’s availability for the Portsmouth fixture, despite the player having been substituted due to injury during the Derby match. Swansea secured their third away win of the current season at Pride Park, having previously experienced a defeat against Leeds United last Sunday. In contrast, Portsmouth has not played a match this week. Their scheduled trip to Blackburn Rovers last Saturday was canceled due to a waterlogged pitch, and their home game against Millwall on Wednesday was postponed because of a power cut at Fratton Park. Nevertheless, Williams dismissed any concerns regarding Swansea’s energy levels as they prepare to face an opponent that has not played for three weeks, stating, “The players are in a flow.” He elaborated, “Yes there are going to be some tired bodies and a couple of broken toes in there and whatever, but it’s nothing they are not used to and can’t cope with.” Williams continued, “We have had a busy schedule, but we got a good result so that’s given everyone a boost, and we love playing at home as well, so that’s given everyone a boost as well.” He concluded, “We are not feeling sorry for ourselves in any way. We are looking forward to the game.” Entering the weekend, Swansea occupies the 11th position in the league standings, trailing the play-off places by five points. Portsmouth, who secured the League One championship last season, currently sit at the bottom of the table, four points away from safety. They do, however, hold two games in hand compared to most other teams in the division. Their most recent match, played on November 9 against Preston, marked only their second victory of the season.
