All-rounder Alice Capsey has been recalled to England’s T20 squad for their tour of South Africa, which is scheduled to commence on Sunday. Capsey was a member of the England side that exited the T20 World Cup following a defeat by West Indies. England confirmed that the 20-year-old’s inclusion is “due to a couple of minor injury concerns within the squad.” When the squads for the tour were initially announced earlier this month, Capsey was a notable omission from both the T20 and Test selections, although she was included in the one-day team. She was part of the England team that experienced a group-stage exit from the T20 World Cup in October. During her three innings at the tournament in the United Arab Emirates, Capsey did not surpass 20 runs. Since then, she has been playing in the Women’s Big Bash League for Melbourne Renegades, where this month she recorded a five-wicket haul against Perth Scorchers, followed by a first-ball duck in the same match. Last week, England head coach Jon Lewis stated that Capsey was “trending in the wrong direction” and that they “need to have a little reset.” Lewis added, “We’ve given her some really clear guidance on where we’d like her to improve and how we’d like her to play,” and further remarked, “Alice is incredibly strong-willed and really determined to be the best player she can be. There’s no doubt in my mind that over time, she will play lots and lots of games for England in all formats.” On their tour of South Africa, England is set to play three T20s, three One-Day Internationals (ODIs), and a four-day Test match.
