When discussing the standout signings of the season in the Scottish Premiership, Dundee United striker Sam Dalby is a strong candidate, based on current evidence. Upon his summer arrival on loan from Wrexham, United fans could have been excused for their unfamiliarity with the 25-year-old, whose career had previously been spent in the English lower leagues. However, he has now become a well-known figure, especially among those who support the Tangerines. Dalby’s impact since joining the City of Discovery has been exceptional. In the 13 games he has participated in, he has scored six times, with all these goals coming in his last eight appearances. He has become an essential player in a high-performing United team, which is currently positioned fourth in the Premiership. However, success will inevitably attract attention from elsewhere. Manager Jim Goodwin has stated, “we want to be at the table” when it comes to discussions about the long-term future of Dalby, who will become a free agent at the end of the season. Yet, if the player sustains his excellent scoring form, many other clubs could also be present at that table. If he can help propel United into European competition, the allure of continental football would certainly aid the Tannadice side in their efforts to persuade him to remain at the club for a longer duration.
