Swimmer Duncan Scott received the Sportsperson of the Year award at the Scottish Sports Awards, following a summer in which his Olympic medal count reached eight. The 27-year-old athlete, who hails from Alloa, now holds the distinction of being Scotland’s most decorated Olympian, with a total of eight medals. This achievement came after he secured a gold medal as a member of the 4x200m men’s relay team and a silver medal in the 200m individual medley event in Paris. Scott was also honored with the male athlete of the year prize, while triathlete Beth Potter, a recipient of two Olympic bronze medals, received the female award. Potter secured a third-place finish in the individual event held in Paris, subsequently achieving the same position in the mixed relay. Sammi Kinghorn, who brought home one gold and four silver medals from the Paralympics, was recognized as the female Para-athlete of the year. Stephen McGuire earned the male award for his gold medal in boccia at the Games. The Scotland women’s cricket team was designated team of the year, having participated for the first time in a T20 World Cup. Concurrently, Glasgow Warriors received the moment of the year prize for their victory in rugby’s URC. Additionally, swimmer Jim Anderson, Katherine Grainger, a rower with multiple Olympic medals, and Ryder Cup golfer Colin Montgomerie were inducted into the Scottish Sports Hall of Fame.
