Manager Steve Cotterill has affirmed that Forest Green will maintain a level-headed approach, despite their recent victory over York City which propelled them to the top of the National League standings. The Rovers secured a 2-0 victory against York, thereby preserving their undefeated status at their home venue, The Bolt New Lawn, and establishing a two-point advantage at the league’s pinnacle. Speaking to BBC Radio Gloucestershire, Cotterill remarked, “It’s just been another game, you don’t get any more points for beating York City because they were top of the table – it’s the same three points as you get for everyone.” He further advised, “Just keep going, keep our head down, keep humble, stay grounded. “I probably don’t need to talk about those things because it’ll certainly be what I am [doing] – and I know they’re young boys and sometimes they can get carried away with it but I’m pretty sure they won’t.”” Forest Green is currently aiming for an immediate return to the Football League, following their relegation from League Two during the previous season. Cotterill assumed management in January, though he was unable to prevent their descent. Nevertheless, this season he has guided the team to 12 league victories and only two defeats across 18 matches. On Saturday, he observed the game from the stands for the second consecutive league fixture, as he was serving a touchline ban incurred after receiving a red card during last month’s draw against Woking. Cotterill commented, “You’ve got to keep building those three points, chipping away in these winter months. “Hopefully get a couple of the injuries back and a little bit more competition for us.”” He added, “I’ve never known any league that hands out medals in November. It just makes a nice night, finishes off the weekend.”
