Former England midfielder Izzy Christiansen stated that enhancements in Manchester United’s attacking third “will come with time,” endorsing Ruben Amorim’s decision to prioritize defensive organization. Amorim had previously cautioned that “the storm will come” for his Manchester United squad, refusing to be swayed by their initial unbeaten run, ahead of their match against Arsenal on Wednesday. This prediction was confirmed as the Gunners secured a victory in their North London encounter, though the win was not as decisive as it could have been. Reflecting on indications of progress for United, Christiansen commented on the BBC Radio 5 Live Football Daily podcast: “The build-up from goalkeeper to midfield in the first-half was excellent and you could see clear ideas of how they want to play. Amorim will be happy with that.” She added, however, that “in the final third there was not much going on. Rasmus Hojlund was quite isolated at times and he didn’t create any clear-cut chances.” Christiansen attributed this by stating: “That will come with time. You can’t do everything all at once and it makes sense to start at the back.” Christiansen also noted that “Out of possession they looked more exposed in the second-half when Arsenal started to attack quicker. That put Lenny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt under pressure at times.” She concluded her analysis by observing that United’s performance in the first half was “closer to Arsenal’s performance…than the second.”
