The initial half of Chelsea’s decisive victory against Shamrock Rovers proved more challenging than manager Enzo Maresca and his squad might have anticipated. At least, that was the case early on. Despite holding the majority of possession, the home team nearly conceded from a counter-attack when Johnny Kenny twice came close to scoring for a fifth consecutive Conference League match. Markus Poom’s equalizer, following Marc Guiu’s opening goal, caused a moment of concern for the hosts, but they established control after the Spanish youngster capitalized on a further defensive mistake by the Rovers to re-establish Chelsea’s lead. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall effectively sealed the outcome, before Guiu secured his hat-trick with a skillfully executed header – marking his sixth European goal of the campaign. Marc Cucurella then concluded the scoring in the second half as the Blues wrapped up their unblemished league phase campaign with another commanding win. Guiu stands as the most recent young Chelsea player to make an impact in the Conference League this season, but with no European football scheduled for the Blues until March, the teenager aims to demonstrate to Maresca his ability to translate his European performance into the Premier League.
