Chelsea goalkeeper Zecira Musovic, a Sweden international who joined the club in January 2021, has voiced her dissatisfaction with being a substitute for their Women’s Super League matches, though she also indicated an understanding of a “bigger picture”. The 28-year-old Musovic currently ranks below England’s Hannah Hampton in the team’s goalkeeper hierarchy. Despite this, she maintains confidence in her ongoing improvement during training sessions and values the competitive environment. Speaking to BBC Radio London, Musovic articulated her feelings, stating, “I’m not happy about when I’m not playing. You want to be playing. You want to participate. You want to help out your team.” She further elaborated on the demands of her role, adding, “It’s a position that requires a lot of mental strength, to be able to not let that one decision affect your wellbeing or your performance.” Musovic emphasized her perspective on long-term goals, saying, “I’m a person who likes to see the bigger pictures – so yes, there’s a decision for one specific game, but there’s bigger development and I want to keep improving.” She also expressed her appreciation for challenges, stating, “I like a challenge. I like when something is really testing. I come to work every day and I can’t relax. The day I do relax, I will have no chance at all of playing.” In the WSL standings, Chelsea currently trails Manchester City by one point. The team is also preparing for upcoming Women’s Champions League fixtures against Celtic scheduled for this month. For their European competitions, Chelsea shifts venues from their usual Kingsmeadow ground to Stamford Bridge. Musovic noted “improvements” in the expanding supporter base at the larger stadium. She further commented on the team’s home grounds, stating, “I love Kingsmeadow, I love the fans there, I love the atmosphere they create together, but I do think that we are ready for something bigger.” Recalling past experiences at Stamford Bridge, Musovic remarked, “A few years ago when we played [at Stamford Bridge] there were echoes of silence because there was not that many people.” She concluded by observing the positive changes: “But I can see an improvement. I can see more fans coming out to support us and we feel that support. We can continue to grow together.”
