Charlton Athletic has activated a one-year extension clause in Miles Leaburn’s contract. This development follows Leaburn scoring his first goals of the season on Tuesday, netting twice in a 3-0 victory over Chelsea Under 21’s in the EFL Trophy. This action ensures that the 20-year-old striker, who otherwise would have become a free agent next summer, will remain under contract at The Valley until the summer of 2026. An academy graduate and son of former Addicks frontman Carl, Leaburn has accumulated 22 goals across 63 appearances for the club since making a goalscoring debut in July 2022. This marks the second instance in recent weeks of Charlton securing an academy product to extended terms, following defender Zach Mitchell’s signing of a new long-term contract. Furthermore, the Addicks are continuing discussions with Leaburn regarding a potential new contract that would extend his tenure beyond 2026. Technical director Andy Scott commented on the club website, stating, “Miles is a very talented player and has done really well since arriving into the men’s first team in the summer of 2022.” Scott added, “He has fantastic technical ability and really good physical attributes, with his pace, height and power. Mentally he has shown his resilience to come back stronger from a very tough injury last season.”
