Cardiff is seeking to acquire a wing on a short-term contract, as Harri Millard, who has made 52 appearances for the club, has been added to a long-term injury list alongside Mason Grady, Theo Cabango, and Iwan Stephens. Millard’s knee injury is expected to sideline him for a minimum of two months. Matt Sherratt, Cardiff’s coach, is primarily searching for a wing, but also desires a player capable of filling the outside centre position to provide backup for Rey Lee-Lo, who continues to perform at 38 years old. Sherratt stated, “We are looking everywhere but you can easily panic and get someone in. You need to get the right type of people and right type of player as well. Hopefully, over the next couple of days, we’ll see if we can get someone in short-term.” Wales international Grady is facing difficulties in being fit for the commencement of the Six Nations due to a fractured ankle, while Cabango is recuperating from a severe hamstring issue. Stephens is anticipated to be unavailable for the remainder of the season after sustaining an ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) injury during training. For the upcoming festive derbies against Dragons and Ospreys, and the remaining European Challenge Cup fixtures next month against Perpignan and Connacht, Cardiff’s wing options include Josh Adams, Gabriel Hamer-Webb, and 18-year-old Tom Bowen. Adams contributed two tries in his player-of-the-match display during the 26-10 Challenge Cup victory over the South African team Cheetahs, and Bowen made an impression by scoring on his debut. Sherratt commented, “We’re pretty bashed up in a couple of positions. It always seems the way, that you get two or three in a couple of positions. Harri has done his MCL (medial collateral ligament). We don’t have an exact date on that. It’s probably going to be a couple of months. So we probably need a bit of cover around wing. We’ve got Gabe, Josh and Tom so we’ve got enough to get by but we could do with strengthening that area.”
