The Cardiff Devils secured their place in the Challenge Cup semi-finals by achieving a crucial 6-4 victory over the Nottingham Panthers, a win that required them to avoid overtime. This dramatic outcome saw the Devils overcome a four-goal deficit against their opponents. Nottingham initially established a dominant position at the Vindico Arena, with Oliver Betteridge, Tim Doherty, and Sam Herr each scoring in the first period. Mitchell Fossier further extended Nottingham’s advantage. However, Tyler Busch and Cole Sanford responded for Cardiff with rapid goals in the second period, igniting hopes for a comeback. Kohen Olischefski scored Cardiff’s third goal, followed by Cole Sanford who equalized the score. Olischefski then netted his second goal, giving the home team a 5-4 lead in the closing moments. Busch subsequently scored his second, marking Cardiff’s sixth goal of the game. This victory in regulation time confirmed the Devils’ advancement to the semi-finals of the competition. The Panthers, conversely, are now scheduled to compete against Glasgow Clan in a single elimination match to decide the final team joining Cardiff, Belfast, and Sheffield in the subsequent round. Cardiff is set to resume play in the Elite League on 26 December at 18:00 GMT, facing Coventry Blaze.
