Cardiff City is scheduled to participate in a private friendly match this week. Interim manager Omer Riza intends to utilize the international break to its full potential, including facilitating the recovery of several important players, such as leading scorer Callum Robinson, to full fitness. Following their 3-1 home loss to Blackburn Rovers on Saturday, “The Bluebirds” have re-entered the Championship’s relegation zone. Uncertainty persists regarding whether interim manager Riza, aged 44, will be appointed to the position permanently. He has acknowledged that he is unsure if he will remain in charge once the break concludes. Riza stated his intention to “prepare as I normally would” during this period, as Cardiff City anticipates their away fixture against Sheffield Wednesday on 23 November. Riza noted that only three players—Rubin Colwill (Wales), Callum O’Dowda (Republic of Ireland), and Manolis Siopis (Greece)—will be absent from the training facility for the upcoming two weeks. He commented: “[The internationla window] won’t impact us too much – we have three players away and we’ll prepare this week; we’ll be training Monday and Tuesday, we have a friendly on Wednesday and after that we’ll look at a couple of days’ rest ready to come back in ahead of the Sheffield Wednesday game.” The interval before the next match also offers an opportunity for injured players to rejoin the squad, with captain Joe Ralls expected to return following the international fixtures, having been sidelined for the past six games due to an unspecified leg injury. Meanwhile, Robinson, the five-goal striker, was absent from the weekend’s game due to an Achilles issue. Riza stated: “He now has a good 10-12 days to get himself back to a suitable level to start playing again.” Calum Chambers was also unavailable for the match against Blackburn due to illness, with Jesper Daland taking his place. Riza observed that Daland’s recent lack of match practice, following an ankle problem, was evident during the defeat, but he also noted that the Norwegian player would gain from the playing time. Although there was earlier optimism about the return of Wales captain Aaron Ramsey, Riza indicated that the midfielder is still “two, maybe three” weeks from rejoining the squad. The former Watford coach further commented: “We will have more to select from, it’s not all doom and gloom,” adding, “We’ve come from so far behind to get where we are now, it is credit to the boys.“It is a hard task to climb off from one point. Yes, we’re in a position where you lose a game and you can drop back in, but that’s why I can’t look at the table. I have to look at results, performances and us believing what we’re doing – that is still there and is not going to change.”
