The captain’s challenge system is set to be implemented in Super League games starting in 2025. Under this new rule, teams will be able to dispute a referee’s decision during a stoppage in play. Each team will be permitted one unsuccessful challenge per game. This system was initially introduced in Australia’s NRL in 2020, with the stated goal of mitigating the impact of incorrect refereeing decisions on the outcome of a match. It was also employed during the World Cup held in England in 2022. Additionally, the challenge system will be operational in all televised matches within the men’s Challenge Cup, Women’s Super League, and Women’s Challenge Cup competitions.
