Cameron Norrie, whose world ranking has dropped to 57th, achieved his initial win on the ATP Tour since July by defeating Roberto Carballes Baena at the Moselle Open in Metz. The British number two mounted a comeback from being a set and a break down, ultimately triumphing 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 in a dynamic match against the Spanish player. This marks his first Tour success since his victory over Jozef Kovalik in the opening round of the Swedish Open, nearly four months prior. Norrie’s absence from several tournaments over the summer, including the Olympics and US Open, was attributed to a forearm injury. He returned to competition last month. “I was happy with the way I turned it around, and it’s nice to get a win,” Norrie said. The 29-year-old, currently ranked 57th globally, is scheduled to compete against Bulgarian third seed Grigor Dimitrov in the second round on Wednesday. In the French city on Tuesday, Norway’s Casper Ruud and Russian top seed Andrey Rublev are actively seeking to secure their places at the season-ending ATP Finals, which are set to begin on Sunday in Turin. With three spots still available, Novak Djokovic, currently ranked sixth, Ruud (seventh), Alex de Minaur (eighth), and Rublev (ninth) remain contenders for qualification. Djokovic is not participating this week, having withdrawn from the Paris Masters last week, while De Minaur is the top seed at the Serbia Open.
