Cliftonville forward Caitlin McGuinness has been honored as October’s player of the month by the Northern Ireland Football Writers’ Association. McGuinness scored a hat-trick when Cliftonville secured a 5-0 victory over Lisburn Rangers in the Women’s Irish Cup final at Windsor Park. The 22-year-old also netted a goal in the 6-0 win against Women’s Premiership rivals Glentoran, a result that proved decisive in the title race. McGuinness contributed 14 goals as Cliftonville achieved a perfect record, winning all 16 of their league matches to conclude the season. Cliftonville completed a treble, adding the league title and Irish Cup triumph to their earlier League Cup success in July. “To win the treble with the Reds and to complete the league season with a 100% record was unreal,” said McGuinness. “This award is a nice way to cap a fantastic month.” In other awards from the Football Writers, Glentoran goalkeeper Daniel Gyollai was named men’s player of the month, while Declan Caddell received the manager of the month award for October.
