Bristol Bears scrum-half Harry Randall stated that the team had conversations about “creating history” prior to their landmark 10th consecutive away victory against Leicester Tigers on Saturday. The Bears secured a 54-24 win at Welford Road, surpassing the record for the most consecutive away victories, a benchmark established by Saracens in 2011. Randall, an England international, confirmed that surpassing this particular record was a subject of discussion during training sessions leading up to the game. “It’s very important to us. It’s something we spoke about in the week, about creating history. We definitely lived that throughout this week,” Randall informed BBC Radio Bristol. He added, “It was a bit of an emotional build-up for us coming into the game.” Coach Pat Lam also acknowledged the significance of the milestone victory, though his focus remained on ensuring a strong performance in Friday’s upcoming home fixture against Sale Sharks, especially after the Bears’ defeat to Exeter Chiefs at Ashton Gate during last season’s Christmas game. Lam stated: “We equalled the Saracens 2011 team and now at Bristol Bears we’ve beaten that record. To go undefeated for the whole calendar year as well is something we can be proud of, because we’ve created history.” He continued: “But we tick that and move on. We’ve got a massive game on Friday, and this time last year we had a full house and we played poor rugby, which was my fault as tactically I got the whole game wrong, so we owe our fans a massive performance against a tough Sale team who are going well.” This victory positioned Bristol alongside Bath at the summit of the Premiership standings, fueling anticipation that the club might secure its inaugural league title. “We’ve been in this position since we pushed ourselves to the top of the table. So that’s driving us, knowing what we can do.”
