Brighton & Hove Albion is preparing to acquire midfielder Diego Gomez, 21, from Inter Miami, with the transfer scheduled for January. The club, known as “The Seagulls,” has finalized an agreement for the “dynamic midfielder” to transfer from the MLS team for an unspecified duration once the transfer window commences on January 1. Gomez started his professional career with the Paraguayan team Club Libertad Asuncion. There, he registered six goals and four assists across 52 matches following his debut in May 2022. He moved to Inter Miami in July 2023, marking his MLS debut with a goal. Since then, he has established himself as a consistent player, featuring in 28 games and contributing six goals and seven assists. During his tenure, Miami advanced to the MLS playoffs and secured qualification for the upcoming summer’s Club World Cup. Brighton’s head coach, Fabian Hurzeler, commented on the upcoming arrival: “We’re looking forward to working with Diego very soon. He has already made a real impression both at club and international level.” Hurzeler further added, “Like all young players who come to us from abroad he will need a period of adjustment to the Premier League, but I feel he can make a big contribution and I’m looking forward to working with him.” Gomez is also an international player for Paraguay, having earned nine caps since his national team debut in 2022. This includes his participation with the national squad at the 2024 Olympic Games. David Weir, Albion’s Technical director, also shared his perspective: “We’re pleased to welcome Diego to the club, and we believe he will be a very good addition to our squad.” Weir described him as, “He’s a dynamic midfielder who can contribute goals and assists and we believe his physical profile will be important as he adjusts to the challenge of the Premier League.” He concluded by stating, “He has only recently finished the MLS campaign so we’re confident he will be ready to compete for a place in the squad when he joins us next month.” Post navigation Ipswich Town Records First Season Victory, Eliciting Fan Enthusiasm Jenny Holl and Oscar Onley Receive Top Scottish Cycling Awards
