English Premier League team Brighton has reached an agreement to acquire Paraguay international Diego Gomez from Major League Soccer (MLS) club Inter Miami. Gomez has been a member of Inter Miami since July 2023. The 21-year-old midfielder is scheduled to transfer to the Premier League side upon the opening of the transfer window on January 1, 2025. Gomez began his professional football journey with the Paraguayan club Libertad prior to his move to Inter Miami, the club where Lionel Messi also plays, in July 2023. Brighton’s head coach, Fabian Hurzeler, expressed his anticipation for the new signing, stating, “We’re looking forward to working with Diego very soon. He has already made a real impression both at club and international level. Like all young players who come to us from abroad, he will need a period of adjustment to the Premier League, but I feel he can make a big contribution and I’m looking forward to working with him.” Brighton confirmed that Gomez’s agreement to join the club is based on terms that have not been disclosed. Following his debut for Libertad in the Copa Libertadores in May 2022, Gomez registered six goals across 52 appearances, which led to his transfer to Miami, where he notably scored in his first MLS match. During his initial season, he netted one goal in five matches; however, he has established himself as a consistent player this year, contributing six goals in 28 appearances as Miami advanced to the MLS play-offs. The 6-foot midfielder played for Paraguay in the Olympics last summer and has accumulated 12 caps for the national senior squad. Brighton’s technical director, David Weir, further commented on Gomez’s attributes, stating, “He’s a dynamic midfielder player who can contribute goals and assists, and we believe his physical profile will be important as he adjusts to the challenge of the Premier League. He has only recently finished the MLS campaign so we’re confident he will be ready to compete for a place in the squad when he joins us next month.” Post navigation Fulham Manager Silva Reflects on “Really Weird Game” WBBL Commentaries Accessible Across BBC Platforms
