Bayern Munich’s goalkeeper, Mala Grohs, has received a cancer diagnosis. Grohs has previously represented Germany at the under-16 to under-19 levels. The German club announced that the 23-year-old will be sidelined for an “indefinite period” to focus on her recovery. Concurrently, Bayern has finalized an early one-year contract extension for Grohs, securing her with the club until the summer of 2026. “The illness is a challenge that I never thought I would have to overcome,” Grohs stated. “But I am sure that with the help I am now getting from all sides, I will manage it and get completely healthy again.” Bianca Rech, Bayern’s director of women’s football, commented: “The team, the coaching and support team and we as the entire FC Bayern family are firmly on Mala’s side. “She will receive all of our support, which is one of the things we wanted to express with the contract extension. “We wish Mala a lot of strength and the best possible recovery from the bottom of our hearts.” Since her arrival from VfL Bochum in 2019, Grohs has played in 81 matches for Bayern, contributing to the team’s three German titles and a German Super Cup victory.
