Somerset batter Tom Banton has joined the defending champions Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash, stepping in for Sussex’s Tom Alsop. Alsop, aged 29, has been sidelined due to a quad injury. Banton, 26, will fill his spot until January 6, at which point he is scheduled to join MI Cape Town for the SA20 tournament. Banton previously represented the Heat during the 2019-20 Big Bash season, where he accumulated 223 runs across seven innings, achieving a tournament-leading strike-rate of 176.98. He has been included in the Heat’s squad for their upcoming game on Sunday against the Adelaide Strikers. The Heat secured a victory against the Melbourne Stars in their initial match on Thursday.
