Atletico Madrid achieved a comfortable victory against Slovan Bratislava, propelled by a spectacular goal from Julian Alvarez and two goals from Antoine Griezmann. Julian Alvarez, the former Manchester City forward, initiated the scoring for Diego Simeone’s squad in the 16th minute. His exquisite curling shot from the left side of the penalty area marked his fourth Champions League goal this season. Griezmann registered his first of two goals three minutes prior to the half-time whistle. This came after diligent play from Alvarez enabled Marcos Llorente to deliver a lofted pass into the box, which the Frenchman headed into the net. Slovan was granted a chance to reduce the deficit six minutes after play resumed when Clement Lenglet committed a foul on David Strelec. Strelec subsequently converted the penalty, sending Jan Oblak in the wrong direction. However, just six minutes later, Griezmann secured his second goal with a mis-hit shot that bounced over the leg of the visiting goalkeeper, Dominik Takac. Before his substitution, the 33-year-old attacker had an opportunity to complete a remarkable hat-trick, but his angled attempt was caught by Takac. Slovan nearly scored again, but a superb save from Oblak diverted Siemen Voet’s powerful strike onto the goalpost. Simeone’s team, currently on a streak of 10 consecutive wins across all competitions, has climbed to ninth position in the League Phase. They are now just one point behind Bayer Leverkusen, who sit in second place. The Slovakian team, Slovan, occupies the bottom spot in the table, having failed to secure any points after six matches.
