Ethan Nwaneri, who made history as the Premier League’s youngest player in September 2022, featured in Arsenal’s Carabao Cup match. While the Carabao Cup may not be Mikel Arteta’s primary focus this season, Arsenal’s progress in the competition has been flawless thus far. The Gunners have netted eight goals across two matches, placing them just two victories away from Wembley, and Arteta has utilized the opportunity to grant several promising young players their debuts. At Deepdale, goalkeeper Tommy Setford, 18, and defender Ayden Heaven, 18, both made their inaugural first-team appearances. However, it was fellow teenager Ethan Nwaneri who delivered the most notable performance. The 17-year-old concluded an excellent display by scoring a superb goal in the first half, precisely curling his shot into the top left-corner. He exhibited consistent confidence and composure throughout the game. Nwaneri, an academy product who previously scored his first senior goals in the 5-1 victory against Bolton in the preceding round of the EFL Cup, also struck the crossbar late in the match for Arsenal. He received a well-deserved ovation from the visiting supporters upon his late substitution. Based on this performance, the calls for him to be included in more Premier League starting lineups are expected to intensify.
