Over the past week, Mikel Arteta’s team appears to have moved past its challenging beginning and begun to gather momentum. The Gunners secured a comfortable victory against Nottingham Forest last weekend, followed by a dominant win over Sporting away from home in the Champions League midweek. Although they are scheduled to play West Ham this weekend, their focus has shifted towards the demanding December fixture period. While some managers might be concerned by a schedule featuring eight matches before the year concludes, Arteta identifies advantages in Arsenal’s upcoming fixtures. Arsenal is scheduled to play only one of its next 13 matches outside London, and with games occurring every three days, the reduced travel and shorter return journeys could prove advantageous. Arteta characterized the fixture list, which requires the Gunners to depart the capital only once before late January, as “crazy” – particularly since that sole match outside London involves a comparatively short trip to Brighton. The Gunners experienced a challenging start to the season and currently trail the top spot by nine points. Nevertheless, they have already competed against the other teams that concluded last season in the Premier League’s top seven, having played away matches against Aston Villa, Tottenham, Manchester City, Newcastle, and Chelsea. This situation places considerable emphasis on Arsenal’s home performances, but should Arteta’s squad sustain its recent run of results, they could find themselves substantially nearer the top of the table by the conclusion of the festive period.
