Under interim manager Renee Slegers, Arsenal has now secured seven victories in eight matches, extending their unbeaten streak across all competitions to eight games. This follows a decisive 4-0 win against Aston Villa at The Emirates Stadium. Prior to the match, Slegers commented that the Gunners are “doing a really good job to try and find the right manager for the future.” While she has not dismissed the possibility of taking on the role permanently, her performance has been credited with stabilizing Arsenal’s season, which had been facing significant challenges. Arsenal had secured only one win in their initial four Women’s Super League (WSL) matches before Jonas Eidevall’s resignation in October. However, under Slegers’ leadership, the team has demonstrated a return to its previous strong form. Alessia Russo has notably improved her performance, scoring in four consecutive league games for the first time in her career. This follows a start to the season where she recorded five matches without a goal. While some Arsenal supporters might not favor the permanent appointment of Eidevall’s former assistant, considering the difficulties encountered during his tenure, Slegers’ current performance presents a strong case for her to retain her position for at least the remainder of the season.
