Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon shared his thoughts with BBC Radio 5 Live following his inaugural senior international goal for England, achieved on Sunday in a match against the Republic of Ireland. The 23-year-old humorously remarked, “It is better late than never, but it is about time!” He acknowledged previous missed opportunities, stating, “I’ve had some great chances but not been able to put them away.” Gordon described his satisfaction with the moment, adding, “It was a good feeling to see it hit the net. I got to celebrate it with some of the lads I have come through the England set-up with. That made it a bit more special.” Gordon also extended praise to Lee Carsley, noting, “I think Lee Carsley deserves a lot of credit. He fills us with so much confidence.” Looking ahead, he expressed optimism, saying, “I finally have a goal now, so hopefully there will be plenty to come.”
