New Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has stated he is under “no illusions” regarding the demanding nature of the position confronting him at Old Trafford. The 39-year-old was appointed on a two-and-a-half-year contract earlier this month. While he is relocating to Old Trafford this week, his official commencement of duties is pending the acquisition of his visa, which is anticipated to take a few days. Amorim concluded his tenure with Portuguese club Sporting by securing a 4-2 victory against his former team, Braga, on Sunday night. After the match, Amorim informed reporters: “I feel ready for the new challenge,” adding, “I’m not naive, I know it’s going to be very different, very difficult. “I’m at peace now. I can focus on my new job and I’m looking forward to starting tomorrow.” He further commented, “I know it will be difficult to reproduce what I have here anywhere else but there are other places with different exposure and pressure.” Amorim will have a 13-day period during the international break to prepare for his inaugural Premier League fixture as manager, an away game against Ipswich scheduled for 24 November. Due to a combination of players departing for international commitments this week and others not selected being granted leave, Amorim’s initial interactions upon arriving at United’s Carrington training complex will primarily be with injured squad members. Throughout his career in Portugal, Amorim has predominantly employed a 3-4-3 formation and stated his clear vision for his team’s setup at Old Trafford. Amorim explained: “I know how I am going to play in the beginning because you have to start with a structure that you know and then you will adapt with the players that you have.” He added, “Some injuries or no injuries, what kind of players, the abilities to defend, to attack… I will discover that in the next few weeks.” Manchester United has not yet confirmed the precise composition of Amorim’s backroom staff, nor whether Ruud van Nistelrooy, who served as interim manager following Erik ten Hag’s dismissal, will continue with the club. Van Nistelrooy indicated that the club had informed him an update regarding his status would be provided following the Leicester game, and he anticipated learning more on Sunday evening or Monday. On Sunday night, Amorim commented: “I have to talk with him tomorrow,” continuing, “I will explain everything. I’m very clear and I will tell you like it is. So let’s wait until tomorrow.” Post navigation The Challenge of Granting Patience and Time to Manchester United’s Next Coach Celtic Supporters Share Views on Alistair Johnston’s New Contract
