Charlie Woods, the teenage son of Tiger Woods, recorded his inaugural hole-in-one during the concluding round of the PNC Championship. Despite this achievement, he and his father were ultimately defeated in a play-off by Bernhard and Jason Langer for the title. The 15-year-old Charlie Woods successfully holed out on the par-three fourth hole, propelling the father-son duo into the lead at the tournament, which features 20 major champions competing alongside a family member. However, it was Team Langer who secured their second consecutive trophy and fourth overall in Orlando, Florida, after Germany’s Bernhard Langer made an eagle on the first play-off hole to clinch the victory. “It was awesome,” Charlie Woods stated. “No-one made a mistake today, so that was some of the most fun I’ve ever had.” He added, “On top of that, I made an ace. I don’t think I can top that.” Tiger Woods participated in his first competitive event since the Open in July. The 15-time major champion underwent back surgery for the second time in 18 months in September and admitted he was “nowhere near competitive shape” at the PGA-backed exhibition tournament. Nevertheless, he expressed that he and his son Charlie “made a great team this week.” The 48-year-old further commented, “And that’s the whole joy of it, to be out here with family and bonding and just the enjoyment of each other’s company.” Charlie Woods was not the sole player to achieve a first career hole-in-one on Sunday. Approximately 30 minutes after Charlie’s shot, Paddy Harrington, 21, whose father Padraig is a three-time major winner, also aced the eighth hole. “I’ve never been as excited before. I’ve never hit a shot and been that excited before,” Padraig Harrington remarked. Born on 9 February 2009, Charlie is the son of Tiger Woods and his former spouse, Elin Nordegren. Nordegren and Woods married in 2004 and had two children together, including Charlie’s older sister Sam, born in 2007, before their divorce in 2010. Charlie became the youngest participant in the PNC Championship when he competed at age 11 in 2020 alongside his father. The pair finished tied for fifth in that 2020 event, followed by a runner-up finish in 2021. They placed eighth in 2022 and fifth in 2023, preceding another second-place finish in 2024. Earlier this year, Charlie was unsuccessful in his attempt to qualify for his first PGA Tour event, posting a 16-over-par 86 at a pre-qualifying tournament for the Cognizant Classic. In July, he missed the cut at the US Junior Amateur Championship, having finished 22 over through two rounds.
