Steven McCullough, Portadown’s goal scorer, stated that his team had to “dig deep” during their 1-0 victory against Crusaders at Shamrock Park. His decisive goal was the only one of the match, helping Portadown climb to second place in the league. McCullough netted the winning goal during the second half. However, Portadown was fortunate to claim all three points, as Crusaders hit the woodwork on four separate occasions. This victory elevated the home side to second in the league table, prompting McCullough to commend his team’s attitude. “We had to dig deep today, we started well, Crusaders were unlucky not to score, they hit the post, and the crossbar and Aaron McCarey pulled off a wonder save,” McCullough explained.”It was a tough day, but we are getting that bit of luck at the minute and hopefully it continues.” McCullough attributes their strong performance at home as instrumental to their unexpectedly high standing in the league table. “It’s brilliant no one expected us to be here, we have a good changing room we are an honest bunch, and we work hard,” he continued.”We are making Shamrock Park a fortress and making it hard for teams to come here and get a result and hopefully we can continue the form into the new year.”
