Hearts head coach Neil Critchley offered his support to captain Lawrence Shankland, expressing confidence in his ability to regain his scoring touch, following another challenging performance in Saturday’s loss to Celtic. The Scotland international squandered two prime scoring opportunities at Tynecastle while the match remained scoreless, and he appears to be lacking confidence, having registered only one goal across all competitions this season. This week, Shankland informed the media that no new contract offer is currently on the table, with his existing agreement scheduled to conclude in the summer. He stated: “At this moment in time, my contract will be finishing. I won’t have one at Hearts, so that indicates that you move on.” However, Critchley maintains that there is no basis to question Shankland’s dedication to the Gorgie club between now and the summer. “His all-round game has been excellent in the last few games, and you saw that again tonight,” Critchley remarked after the Celtic defeat. He continued, “He put a real shift in, and he just needs one of those moments to go for him. He needs to stick at it, and we need to stick with him. “Critchley also affirmed, “He’s contracted to the end of the season and when you see the way he plays tonight there’s no reason to doubt his commitment to Hearts.”
