Redditch United has confirmed the reappointment of Matt Clarke as its first team manager. This decision follows the withdrawal of drug-related charges against the 50-year-old by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) five months prior. His reinstatement took effect on Friday. The club’s website released a statement indicating that Tim Flowers had resigned as manager on Thursday, having been approached by a different club. Mr. Clarke, a Bromsgrove resident, expressed his view that he had “unfinished business” at Redditch United and anticipated guiding the club to “greater heights.” In February, when the charges were initially filed, Redditch United had announced that Mr. Clarke was taking an “immediate break” from his position for “personal reasons.” He entered a plea of not guilty to accusations of supplying cocaine and cannabis, as well as possessing an offensive weapon. A hearing to dismiss these charges occurred in June, where the CPS informed Worcester Crown Court that, following a review, it would not pursue the case. Commenting on his return via Facebook, Mr. Clarke posted: “What a crazy 24 hours. Back in the dugout doing what I do best. “To say it’s been a tough time away is the understatement of the year. “Incredible day, great scenes at the end with the last minute winner. Amazing being back up the reds.” David Faulkner, chairman of Redditch United, stated that swift action was essential after Mr. Flowers’ departure. He remarked: “We knew we needed to provide clarity for both our players and supporters. “Matt Clarke is someone who knows the club well and has a proven track record of success. We’re excited to see him return and lead the team forward.” In a club statement, Mr. Clarke further commented: “This club means a lot to me, and I feel like there’s unfinished business here. “I’m looking forward to working with the players and staff to build on what we’ve achieved in the past and push this club to even greater heights.” Readers can follow BBC Hereford & Worcester on BBC Sounds, Facebook, X, and Instagram.
