BBC Sport, utilizing data provided by the Premier Injuries website, has examined which football club has experienced the most significant impact from injuries this season. From an injury standpoint, Fabian Hurzeler’s initial period in English football has been difficult; however, his team’s current position of seventh in the Premier League table indicates his ability to manage these challenges effectively. Supporters of West Ham might find their current season even more disappointing upon discovering that their club has encountered the fewest injury issues among teams in the top flight. According to Ben Dinnery from Premier Injuries Ltd, a comparison of the current injury landscape with the corresponding period last season reveals a decrease in the overall number of incidents. He stated, “Year on year, there has been about a 20% reduction in the number of injury incidents and about a 30% reduction in the ‘burden’ on clubs – the amount of days missed by injured players.” This data is compiled starting from the season’s inaugural day, meaning that players who sustained injuries prior to the campaign’s commencement—such as the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries affecting Rico Henry of Brentford, Tyrone Mings of Aston Villa, and Solly March of Brighton—are not included in these statistics. Dinnery further commented, “Perhaps the narrative [of an increase in injuries] is driven by some high-profile managers and the prominence of major injuries to higher-status players, such as Manchester City’s Rodri.” He noted that the discussion around injuries is not being amplified by Kieran McKenna at Ipswich or by Brighton’s Fabian Hurzeler. These individuals are refraining from using their absent players as justifications, despite Ipswich having lost several significant players while endeavoring to adjust to the demanding intensity and rigors of Premier League football. Brighton’s performance last year was not exceptional, partly due to their participation in European football. While statistical figures provide one perspective, football inherently remains a contact sport. Their continued strong performance, notwithstanding numerous injuries, could be attributed to their successful recruitment of a squad possessing both strength and depth.
