Hibs manager David Gray addressed the media today in preparation for his team’s match against Dundee on Saturday. The key points from his discussion are as follows: Regarding the board’s statement of support, Gray indicated that he “understands why questions are being asked” but stated that the backing came as “no surprise.” When asked if he had sought reassurances from the board, Gray responded, “I’m constantly explaining decisions, why we do things,” while asserting that he did not fear his position was in jeopardy. He acknowledged that results are “not good enough” but expressed strong belief in his ability to improve the situation. Gray affirmed he would not “point fingers,” instead emphasizing the need for collective improvement. He added: “I look at myself first and foremost. I think that’s something I’ve said to the players on numerous occasions about accountability, looking at yourself, asking can you do more? But sticking together through times of adversity when things are tough; there’s no point in feeling sorry for yourself. It’s not going to change by doing that.” Gray conveyed that he “takes a lot of belief from how quickly things can change” but stressed that his focus remains solely on Saturday’s game at Den’s Park. The Hibs boss expects to see a “reaction” from his players following their previous defeat by St Mirren. Gray confirmed there is no ultimatum from the board concerning results or points required to maintain his role, but he is “well aware” of the imperative to start winning games, and swiftly.
