Catriona Matthew, who previously led Europe to consecutive Solheim Cup victories in 2019 and 2021, has been appointed to captain Great Britain & Ireland (GB&I) once more in the 2026 Curtis Cup. The team will face the United States at Bel-Air Country Club in Los Angeles. Matthew guided the GB&I side to a narrow 10½-9½ win over the US at Sunningdale in September, marking GB&I’s first Curtis Cup triumph since 2016. The captain, a two-time Solheim Cup winner, will aim for consecutive victories when the 44th edition of the event takes place from 12-14 June 2026. The Scottish captain, who secured a Curtis Cup win as a player in 1992 and contributed to its retention in 1994, took over the role from Elaine Ratcliffe prior to this year’s match. Matthew, a winner of one major title, the 2009 Women’s British Open, commented on her recent achievement: “The 2024 victory is right up there with anything I’ve achieved, including winning the Solheim Cup as a player and captain.” She further added, regarding the upcoming challenge: “It’s always harder to win away from home and I’m excited for the opportunity. It is my job to again build a high-performing and motivated team who will aim to retain the trophy.”
