On Sunday, England’s starting line-up against the Republic of Ireland featured three players from Newcastle United, marking only the third time this has occurred in the team’s history. Interim boss Lee Carsley selected Tino Livramento, Lewis Hall, and Anthony Gordon, all of whom have progressed through the England set-up, to play at Wembley. The last instance of three Magpies featuring in an England starting XI was in April 1997, when David Batty, Rob Lee, and Alan Shearer played against Georgia.
