Celtic, demonstrating clinical efficiency, established a three-point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership standings after what ultimately became a comfortable victory against Hearts at Tynecastle. Following Aberdeen’s initial league defeat of the season earlier on Saturday, Brendan Rodgers’ team understood that a win in the capital would allow them to create a significant gap between themselves and the Dons for the first time this term. However, their start to the match was slow, and they were fortunate to be level at half-time, as Blair Spittal and Lawrence Shankland had squandered prime opportunities to put Hearts in the lead. The second half presented a different scenario; Kyogo Furuhashi’s seventh goal of the season put Celtic ahead on his second attempt, after Craig Gordon had initially saved a shot that deflected into the Japanese striker’s path from Daniel Oyegoke’s clearance. Nicholas Kuhn then extended Celtic’s advantage five minutes later with an excellent attacking play and finish, ensuring the result was no longer in doubt from that point onward. Adam Idah added a third goal for Celtic after a sequence of precise passes on the edge of the Hearts penalty area, despite the best efforts of goalkeeper Gordon. Neil Critchley’s side, nonetheless, continued to display impressive determination and were rewarded for their persistence when substitute Musa Drammeh scored a late consolation goal, beating Kasper Schmeichel with a powerful long-range strike. Idah subsequently completed the scoring from the penalty spot in added time, after James Forrest was fouled by Jorge Grant, thereby capping an outstanding second-half performance from his team.
