Ireland’s head coach, Andy Farrell, has confirmed that winger Jacob Stockdale sustained a hamstring injury during the team’s 52-17 victory against Fiji on Saturday. This match marked Stockdale’s first start for Ireland in 15 months. Stockdale was compelled to leave the field in the 49th minute, having pulled up sharply after a tackle. The 28-year-old player was making his initial appearance for Ireland in 15 months, following a period of strong performance for Ulster. This injury presents a concern for Ulster, particularly as the club is scheduled to commence its European Champions Cup campaign away against Toulouse on 8 December. “He pulled up sharply with his hamstring,” Farrell stated regarding Stockdale, who was observed with an ice pack on his right hamstring at the conclusion of the match. Farrell added, “We’ll have to see how that is, but he pulled up quite sharp, so I was gutted for him.” Furthermore, Farrell disclosed that full-back Jamie Osborne suffered an abductor injury during the first half of the victory at the Aviva Stadium. “He couldn’t carry on so that doesn’t look right at the minute,” Farrell further commented. Ireland is scheduled to face Australia in their concluding autumn international fixture at the Aviva Stadium on 30 November.
