Jake Ball, a former Wales lock who earned 50 caps for his country between 2014 and 2021, has declared his intention to retire from professional rugby at the conclusion of the current season. The 33-year-old was a member of the squad that secured the Grand Slam in 2019 and reached the World Cup semi-finals in the same year. Ball, currently playing for NEC Green Rockets in Japan, commenced his professional journey with Western Force before moving to Scarlets, where he accumulated 133 appearances over nine seasons. Revealing his choice via Instagram, Ball stated: “Professional rugby has been my dream, my passion and my career for the last 15 years.” He further added, “I have made the tough decision to retire at the end of the 2024-25 season in order to spend more time with my family.” Having joined Scarlets in 2012, Ball was also part of the team that claimed the Pro12 title, as it was known at the time, during the 2016-17 season. Reflecting on his career, he commented: “Every chapter has enabled me to live out that childhood dream.” He also expressed gratitude, saying: “To my team-mates, coaches, staff and fans I have made some great friendships and memories that I will cherish.” Concluding his message, he added: “Thank you for the support and good times over the years.” Post navigation Parker Links Burnley’s Turf Moor Anxiety to Poor Decisions Liverpool Manager Arne Slot Labels Mohamed Salah ‘Irreplaceable’
