Tottenham manager Robert Vilahamn has stated that Arsenal will be under significant pressure when the two clubs face each other in the north London derby this Saturday at 13:45 GMT. The Gunners, currently undefeated in five matches across all competitions under interim manager Renee Slegers, will visit the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium trailing WSL leaders Manchester City by seven points. Tottenham enters the fixture in seventh place, having suffered defeat in four of their last five outings. “They have had some really good results but if we win tomorrow they have a big, big problem in the league,” Vilahamn remarked. He added, “I think this is a good opportunity to play against them because and they still have an interim coach and they still are in the phase where they need to chase teams in the table. We just have to give everything we can to try to win this game, even if nobody perhaps expect us to. And I think being the underdog can be good for us.” Further insights from Vilahamn’s news conference included: Vilahamn indicated that last season’s victory over Arsenal highlighted the immense importance of the game to the supporters. He confirmed his familiarity with Slegers, having pursued their Pro Licence together, and expressed his belief that she is a “top, top quality coach.” Describing the recent substantial loss to Manchester City as “mentally a tough game,” Vilahamn nevertheless urged his players to exhibit “brave” play against Arsenal. He also commented that the weekend would be “brilliant” for women’s football, with teams competing in large stadiums. While acknowledging Tottenham’s status as a relatively young team in women’s football compared to a well-established side like Arsenal, Vilahamn maintained confidence in their ability to compete with the Gunners. He noted that despite heightened expectations following the previous season, the club sometimes needs to take “one step back to go two steps forward.”
